The List: 46 #3 Deja Dead

Book number 3 of 5 for this task.

I just finished Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs.  Amazing.  For those who don't know, Kathy Reichs started her Dr. Temperance Brennan series with this book.  If the name Dr. Temperance Brennan sounds familiar, it's because this is the series upon which Bones, my most favorite TV show of all time, is based.  Fun fact: in the show Dr. Brennan is also a writer and the name of the main character in the book is Kathy Reichs.  It's fun how people can make cameos without physically being there.  I actually love that they mirrored real life in the show.
Back to the book.  The reader is introduced to the good doctor with the bare bones (pardon the pun) of her back story.  The story jumps right in to what she does and the first crime, without wordy descriptions.  Told from the first person perspective on the main character, we get to see her thought process, and what she thinks of the people she works with.  (i.e. Claudel's an ass, and Ryan's ass is great in jeans...) The suspense isn't as palpable as it could be, but I found myself curious about different aspects in the story: where was Gabby? how do the crimes connect, what's with the creep who hires a prostitute to just wear an old lady's night gown?  By the penultimate chapter, while there was certainly room for me to be holding my breath and scared silly about the possibility, I was still cautious about what was in the apartment with her, and rooting for her as she came face to face with the killer.  All and all it was an engrossing read, but easy to put down by the end of a chapter.
My next book will be the next book in the series, but for now I'm focusing my reading time on preparing for the GMAT test.  So once I finish one of those books, I'll turn back to a novel.
Overall, READ Deja Dead!
